Wuxi, in the east of China, to the west of
Shanghai, with Taihu Lake on the south and
by Yangtze River on the north, is a famous
city of Jiangsu Province, known as “the pearl
on Taihu Lake”, with a history over 3000 years,
an area of 4650 square KM and a population
of 4.5 million. Entitled as one of the 15
economic centers and of the 10 major tourist
cities in China, Wuxi has jurisdiction over
Jiangyin City, Yixing City and Wuxi County.
Wuxi enjoys exceptional tourist resources.
Abundant water resources and affectionate
historical and cultural scenic spots are the
two main features of the scenery in Wuxi.
The boundless Taihu Lake and the Grand Canal
from Beijing to Hangzhou running through the
city make up the holographic epitome of Wuxi.
With hills behind, the “Turtle Head Peninsular
Park” takes advantage of the beauty of water,
and Liyuan Garden, Plum Garden, Jichang Garden
and Xihui Park etc. Each has its strong points
in landscape. Would famous Yixing, known as
the “Capital of Chinaware”, is rich in resources
featuring chinaware, karst caves, tea and
bamboo. Jiangyin, where Xu Xiake, the great
pioneer tourist of China, was born, is a famous
fort city on the Yangtze River. Plum village
in wuxi county, where the temple and tomb
of Taibo “the eldest son of Emperor Zhou about
2700 years ago) are preserved, is the birthplace
of the earliest cities coming up with many
arrangements for special tours with distinctive
features and definite purposes. The main programmes
including the Taihu Lake tour, the Grand Canal
tour, countryside tour, cycling tour, educational
tour, fishing tour, convalescence tour, Mid-Autumn
Moon Festival celebration on Taihu Lake, listening
to bell-knocking on New Year’s Eve, and local
custom tour for being a Wuxi inhabitant one
day.
Wuxi has the advantages of convenient transportation
by land, water, and air, and communications.
